Discharged 9 Sep 1864 by order of the War Department for disability.

John Steele, one of the wealthiest citizens and an old soldier, was buried at Butler recently. Mr. Steele had just returned from Miami, Fla., where he was spending the winter when he was taken ill. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served with the Fourth Iowa Cavalry.
