Edgar Nield, 74, died at his home on the Quirk's Run road, near Nevada, at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 1940, from the effects of a stroke which he suffered the previous day. He was the son of George and Lucinda May Nield and was born and reared in Boyle county. He was a prominent retired farmer of the section where he resided and a member of the Salt River Baptist church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Schooling Nield, two daughters, Mrs. Carl Wade and Mrs. Reid Fields, four sons, James O., Charles S., Edgar, Jr., Nevada, and Marshall Nield, of Cincinnati; eleven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Nannie VanArsdall Nichols, one brother, W. R. Nield, Harrodsburg. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Salt River Church with burial in the Salt River cemetery. The funeral service was conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Charles Devine, assisted by the Rev. Marshall Black and the Rev. C. H. Burnsides. Pallbearers were Les Semonis, Robert Gray, John Fields, Jim McGinnis, Claud May and Ernest Goode.
