Enlisted as a Private on 8 October 1861. Accidentally Killed Company A, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Wisconsin on 26 Mar 1862. Found this on Ancestry under American Civil War Soldiers, and he was listed as living in Adrian, Wisconsin, which is in Monroe County and most likely now Tomah, Adrian is a Township.

Charles was the son of Ensign B. Briggs and his first wife Martha, born and raised in Smyrna, New York. He moved to Wisconsin, where he married Fannie Jane Depue on July 28, 1861 in the town of Adrian. Charles died before his daughter Martha was born, (refer to her memorial for more information).
