A graduate of Second Ward Senior High School, Charlotte, NC, she had been employed with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System for 20 years. She gave her life to Christ and had a fond affection for her church. She was preceded in death by three older sisters, Bobbie Sloan, Reatha Knighton and Doris Reid.
Geraldine leaves to cherish her fond memory, eight brothers, Robert Young Sr. (Patricia), Melvin Meeks, Samuel Young, Jr., Lerome Meeks (Christine), Preston Young (Kim), James Young, Ross Young and Marvin Young, all of Charlotte; eleven sisters, Evelyn Y. (Rev. Moses Grant), Donna M. Wood, Alice Y. Mangum (Richard) Sheila M. Hope (Stephen), Zada Y. Gonsan, Linda (Pastor Herbert LeGrande), Sandra Y. Hardin (James), Faye Meeks (James, Martha Y. Sifford (Roger), Glenda Y. Carithers (Clarence), all of Charlotte, and Lola Y. Reese (Don) of Detroit, MI; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to her cousin, Doris Wells, of the home.
Services will be held Sunday, December 22, 2002 at the Silver Mount Baptist Church, 501 West Arrowwood Road, Charlotte, at 2 p.m. conducted by Host Pastor, Lincoln Lee, and Officiating Pastor, Herbert LeGrande. The family will receive friends at the Carithers' home, 5633 Barrington Drive, Charlotte.
