Richard, born in St. Kernerve, Cornwall, England, it is said that he was an indentured servent in 1620. He brought over his wife, Alice in 1639, along with 5 other people. He was a plantation owner.

Richard and Alice had four children:

*Katherine Nance (1642-1691)
*William Nance (1649-1727)
*John Webb Nance (1645-1716)
*Thomas Nance (1644-1737)

(I am not sure that he is buried here but Nance's Shop may be where his plantation was.)

A land patent for Richard Nance is found on page 121-122 of Cavaliers & Pioneers of VA Land Patents & Grants1623-1666. Ancestry.com.
It reads: " Richard Nance, 300 acs. Henrico Co., 18 Mar 1639, p. 715. W. upon land of William Gates, S. upon Appamattuck Riv. etc. Due for trans of 6 per: Alice his now wife, Robert Perry, Robert Chappell, Geo. Prebedy, Edward Rowlington, Mary Viccars."
Also, James City records show that William Nance, a son of Richard Nance holding land on both sides of James River in Surry Co. this land contained original land which was granted to Richard Nance in 1639.
