Mary McDowell Carey, 73, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at Lofland Life Care Center in Seaford.
She was born on January 12, 1931, in Bridgeville, to the late Zacurius McDowell and Helen Williamson McDowell and graduated from Bridgeville High School in 1949. She was a bus contractor for 20 years, retiring in 1994. She also served as a senate attache from 1978 until 1984. She had belonged to the Atlanta Homemakers, the Democratic Committee of Women, and the Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville.
Mrs. Carey was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Carey Sr., in 1995 and is survived by her daughters, Donna Mowbray of Seaford, Cindy Irwin of Maryland and Kathy Keidel of Delmar; her sons, Robert C. Carey Jr. and William Carey Sr., both of Bridgeville; and her brother, Albert McDowell also of Bridgeville; 9 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m., with visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, in Seaford. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Chapter, 2306 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805 or any charity of choice.
