Mary Ybarra Davis of San Marcos passed away on May 2, 2009 at the age of 81.

Mary was very proud of her service to the city of San Marcos, serving as municipal court clerk for many years before retiring.

She was also the first woman school crossing guard and served as the first woman meter maid in the city. Mary made a cameo appearance in the movie "The Getaway" which was filmed in San Marcos in 1972.

She had a witty personality and always a generous and caring person to others by lending a helping hand to all. Mary's loving nature and beautiful smile will be missed by all who love her.

She is survived by her former husband, Henry C. Ybarra Sr. of San Marcos; sons Hank Ybarra Jr. of Ashdown, Ark., Ernest Ybarra and wife Teresa of San Antonio, David Ybarra and wife Mary of San Marcos and Patricia Garza of Cibolo; nine grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; sister Esther Galleger; brothers Charles Velasquez, Ernest Velasquez, Gilbert Velasquez and Fred Velasquez.

She is preceded in death by her husband Tom Davis; parents, Salvador and Susie Velasquez; grandson Henry Ybarra III; brothers Lee Velasquez, Donicio Velasquez, Arturo Velasquez and Antonio Velasquez; sisters Angelita Partida, Paula Barrera, Carmen Perez, Sara Aranda and Minnie Vasquez.

The family will received friends Tuesday at Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Ranch Road 12 in San Marcos. A Rosary was recited that evening.

The funeral service was Wednesday, May 6 at the funeral home, officiated by Deacon Jorge Guerrero. Interment followed in Memory Lawn Cemetery in Martindale. Pallbearers included David Lee Ybarra, Anthony Ybarra, Michael Ramirez, Ernest Ybarra, Jr., Hillary Roles and Jack Vasquez. Honorary pallbearers are Evette Estrada and Ruben Ybarra.Funeral arrangements entrusted to Thomason Funeral Home, 396-2300.
