Douglas "Skip" Brown Jr., 61, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab of Charlottesville.

He was born April 26, 1947, in Alexandria, to Douglas M. and Edna W. Brown.

Skip moved to Charlottesville when he was nine and became a member of Cherry Avenue Christian Church. He graduated from Lane High School in 1966, where he played varsity football and baseball and was a letterman in football. After high school, he moved to St. Louis and worked in photography for a while. He later moved back to Charlottesville, working construction both here and Myrtle Beach, as well as various places in North Carolina. He eventually became a finish carpenter as well as having his own business for a period of time.

Skip loved the outdoors, fishing, billiards, building and being with his friends. He would always step out and try to help those he knew were in need.

He is survived by his daughter, Alicia Schweizer of St. Johns, Virgin Islands; and by his brothers, David R. Brown of Columbia, Maryland, and Duane W. Brown of Charlottesville. He is also survived by his newly born granddaughter, Zoey Schweizer; as well as other family and friends.

Many thanks to the staff of Trinity Mission Health and Rehab for their care of Skip during his battle with dementia as they all liked him very much.

A memorial gathering for family and friends was held Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the home of Rick and Theresa Jackson, in the Lake Reynovia Subdivision, off Avon Street Extended.

Memorial donations may be made in honor to Trinity Mission Health and Rehab or to the Alzheimer's Association.
