CMSGT. LUDDIE TALLEY U.S. Air Force, Retired

USAF Retired CMSgt. Luddie Talley, 70, of Las Vegas, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009. He was born in Tuskegee, Ala., Sept. 16, 1938, to James and Mary (Browne) Talley.

He attended primary school in Tuskegee and graduated with honors from Harlem Academy High School in Clewiston, Fla. Luddie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17, immediately following graduation, and began his military career as a legal clerk assigned to Willow Run Air Base in Ypsilanti, Mich.

During this period, Luddie met and married the love of his life, Joan Patricia Hibbitt, in 1959. His military career spanned nearly 28 years with a variety of duty assignment locations, including Minnesota, Turkey, California, Washington, D.C., and the Republic of South Korea. He aspired to become the Air Force Staff Judge Advocate's senior claims and litigation specialist before retiring at Nellis AFB in 1986, at the rank of chief master sergeant.

Luddie quickly grew bored of retirement before commencing another Federal Government career as an agent in 1988, where he continued to work until his death.

A dedicated community servant, Luddie's volunteerism included service as a public swimming pool lifeguard, Boy Scout Master, mentor and counselor for urban teens, and lecturer for Nellis' Our Lady of the Skies Catholic Parish. He was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus Catholic fraternal service organization. He was a skilled baseball player and swimmer, an avid reader, jazz aficionado, animal lover and "connoisseur" of beans-n-cornbread.

Luddie leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Joan Patricia Talley; parents, James and Mary Talley of Florida; his four children, Gina (Talley) Henson of Las Vegas; Michael Talley and wife, Lori, of Pennsylvania; Christopher Talley and fiancee, Elizabeth, of Maryland; and Lisa Talley Giampa and husband, Chuck, of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Eddie Lee Talley and wife, Joyce, of Florida; many nieces, nephews and friends worldwide; and his beloved dog, Raven. Luddie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., with Father Thomas Montelaro. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, May 21, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., in Boulder City.
