DILLON — Eloise Hammond, 87, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Southland Nursing Home in Florence, S.C. Mrs. Hammond was born in Robeson County, N.C., a daughter of the late Clifford and Mattie Shelley Miller. She was a member of Lake Swamp Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Franklin Hammond; a daughter, Paulette Berkley; a brother, Horace Miller; and twin sisters, Rita and Frida Miller.

She is survived by one son, Franklin (Karen) Dewey Hammond, Jr. of Rockingham, N.C.; two daughters, Connie (Freddy) Schafer of Hamer and Judy Jackson of Timmonsville; three brothers, J.C. (Marie) Miller of Portland, Oregon, Walter (Pauleen) Miller of Florence, and Hayward (Sylvia) Miller of Florence; three sisters, Ava Gray Bullard of Georgetown, Jennie Bryant of Green Sea, June Grainger of Tabor City; ten grandchildren; three honorary grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five honorary great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Janice Garris.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Lake Swamp Baptist Church in the Finklea Community, S.C., directed by Meares Funeral Home of Mullins.

Interment will follow at the Hammond Family Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lake Swamp Baptist Church, 4212 Fairlane Road, Loris, S.C. 29569. An online guest book is available at www.mearesfh.com.
