VINCENT SIRAGUSA M.D. Dr. Vincent Siragusa passed away April 6, 2009, after a long battle with Kennedy's Disease, a progressive neuromuscular disease, which he fought for years with courage and dignity.

Dr. Siragusa was born Oct. 14, 1944, in Detroit, where he completed his education and medical training.

He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Detroit and received his M.D. from Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine in 1972.

He was chief medical resident at St. John Hospital and subsequently, accepted a fellowship in cardiology at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich.

Dr. Siragusa began his practice in cardiology in Las Vegas in 1978. He and his partners established the Heart Institute of Nevada in 1984. Dr. Siragusa was a pioneer in the development of heart catheterization and angioplasty. He was a fellow in the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Society of Cardiovascular Interventionists, the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine. He was also a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Diseases.

In 2002, Dr. Siragusa moved his family and his practice to Butte, Mont., his wife, Kerrie's home town. In Butte, he was able to utilize his extensive skill and expertise in the cath lab at St. James Hospital, where he was able to help so many. His contribution to the Butte community has been profound.

Dr. Siragusa will be sorely missed. During his career, Dr. Siragusa held numerous positions, including co-director of Cardiology and CCU at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, director of The Heart Institute of Nevada, chief of cardiology at Columbia Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas and medical director of Cardiovascular Interventional Specialists in Las Vegas. Dr. Siragusa was also an associate professor at the University of Nevada-Reno School of Medicine.

Dr. Siragusa is survived by his wife, of 25 years, Kerrie; and his children, Vincent and Gianna. He is also survived by his mother, Nancy Siragusa of Clinton Township, Mich.; his brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Denise Siragusa of Riverside, Calif.; his sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Justin Klimko of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; his brother, Joseph of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; his brother-in-law, Len Kelly of Clarkston, Wash.; his nephew, John Siragusa of Riverside, Calif.; his nephew, Jason Bliss and wife, Heidi, of Lake Orion, Mich.; his niece, Melissa Bliss of Farmington Hills, Mich.; and his niece, Amy Schiffman and husband, John, of Livonia, Mich. Dr. Siragusa was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Siragusa in 1971; and his father, John Siragusa in 1989.

Memorial services for Dr. Siragusa were held Thursday, April 9, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 2100 Farragut St., in Butte, Mont. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Kennedy's Disease Association, P.O. Box 1105, Coarsegold, CA 93614-1105.
