Shad King of Greeneville, Tenn. died April 14 at Veterans hospital in Mountain Home, Tenn. He was 47.
A member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Marshall, he was a Vietnam War veteran and a member of VFW Post No. 1990.
The funeral for the former sheet metal worker was held Monday at the Kiser Funeral home chapel with the Rev. Roger Slagle officiating. Burial was in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
Greeneville VFW Post No. 1990 was in charge of the military graveside service.
King had been awarded the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Sharpshooter Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Cantrell King: a son Perry L. King of Greeneville; and daughter Ginger D. Jennings of Limestone, Tenn.; his mother Sophia King of Greeneville; five brothers Paul King and Eldridge King, both of Greeneville, Pender King of De Kalb, ILL., Emerson King of Marshall, and L.C. King of Weaverville, NC.; six sister, Catherine Haney of Gassaway W.Va., Jerda McCarter of Old Fort; Alberta Jeffers of Greeneville, Mary Tullock of Raleigh, Margaret Cole of Sevierville, Patsy Jones of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Chester King.
