Helen (Maiorino) Ramey, 93, passed away peacefully Saturday at St. Ann's Nursing Home, Lancaster, Pa., where she had resided for the past three years. Helen was the daughter of Pasquale and Julia (Balasco) Maiorino. Helen graduated from Altoona High School in 1934 and on Thanksgiving Day 1939, married William John Ramey at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. In June 1942, Helen and Bill gave birth to their daughter, Maxine Ramey. Helen was always found next to her husband behind the counter of Bill's Shoe Repair Shop at the William F. Gable Co. Store until the 1960s, when the Ramey family moved their business to Watt and Shands Department Store, Lancaster, Pa. Bill and Maxine died in an auto accident in 1989 returning from Philadelphia. Helen is survived by a half sister, Yolanda Maiorino Garner of Pomona, Calif.; and two nieces: Sandy Garner of Lancaster and Linda Garner of Pomona. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal at Calvary Mausoleum.
