John Kirk, aged 72, died of paralysis, at an early hour last Sunday morning at his residence in Caldwell. He was born in Washington, Pennsylvania but came with his father's family to Guernsey county, when he was four years old. He was married in Cambridge, Dec 22, 1848 to Elizabeth Lyle and to them were born eight children; only one, of whom a daughter, the wife of ex-Sheriff McKee, of Caldwell, is now living. He had been a resident of Noble county since 1853 at which time he settled at Sarahsville. He was well known and highly esteemed by nearly all the older citizens of the county. Soon after settling at Sarahsville he joined the Masons and continued a faithful and consistent member of the order up to the time of his death. He was a soldier in the war of the rebellion, serving as Lieutenant in the 92d Ohio Infantry. All of his brothers, three in number, were soldiers and all are now dead. He was the oldest and last to die. He had been in feeble health for several years and for the last two or three had been unable to leave his room without assistance. Of his near relatives a wife, a daughter and three sisters are all that survive him, who, in their bereavement have the sympathy of the entire community. His remains were interred Tuesday in the cemetery at Sarahsville. His funeral was largely attended and was conducted according to the rites of Masonary.
