Death Notice/Obit published Mon Jan 9 1950, Montrose Daily Press reads: "Howard Hemphill, Valley Resident For 28 Years Dies. Howard Hemphill, age 82 years died 4:30 o'clock Sunday, January 8, 1950 in St Luke's Hospital. He had been a resident of the Montrose community for the past 28 years. He was born December 27, 1867 at Paxton, Ill, the son of Mr and Mrs John A Hemphill, deceased. He moved to Kansas in 1879. A rancher by occupation, he had lived alone for the past 49 years. He is survived by three sisters. Mrs Charles Lambert, Hutchinson, Kans; Mrs Ella Crotts, Partridge, Kans; and Mrs Ama Elligan, Canon City, Colo. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Dr Mark T Warner officiating. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery under direction of the Montrose Funeral Home.
