Joel Perry, a former resident of this city, now residing near Evart, sends word that his father, William Perry, passed away yesterday morning at the home of his daughter M. E. Bailey, 91 Bostwick street, Grand Rapids. William Perry was a pioneer resident of this county, and was well known by the older residents of this city. Prior to his removal to Grand Rapids, about six years ago, he resided in this city a number of years, but most of his time in this county was spent on a farm in Chippewa township. In the early days of the county Mr. Perry engaged in lumbering to some extent, and for a number of years was manager of ex-Senator T. W. Palmer's lumbering operations in Michigan. Mr. Perry was born in Wales in 1815, and was in his 89th year at the time of his death. He came to Michigan at the age of 19, and the greater portion of the 70 years he dwelt in this state was spent in this county. He will be remembered by many people as an excellent Christian man, and a true friend to everybody. His wife passed away several years ago,and next Sunday his remains will be laid by the side of those of his faithful companion for many years, the burial to be on section four, Chippewa township, where also lie the remains of a daughter. The funeral was to be held in Grand Rapids this afternoon, and the remains are to leave for Chippewa tomorrow. Besides the daughter in Grand Rapids and the son near Evart, deceased leaves a son whose home in in Rhinelander, Wis.

Death of Michigan Pioneer
William Perry, a resident of Michigan for more than sixty years, died this morning at the age of 89 years at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. E. Bailey, 91 Bostwick street. Mr. Perry came to this city from his Mecosta county farm six years ago. During his life he had been engaged in lumbering and farming and was an intimate friend of ex-Senator T. W. Palmer of Detroit and other men prominent in lumbering in Michigan. He is survived by three children, Mrs. M. E. Bailey of this city, Joel Perry of Evart, and Edward Perry of Rhinelander, Wis. Funeral services will be held at 91 Bostwick street Friday at 3 p.m. Interment will be at Evart, Mich., Saturday.
