Albert Barney, age 19, born at DuPage Co., IL, Farmer: Enlisted from Waukegan; Was on detached service with the 9th Ohio Battery 7 months; and with the 18th Ohio 5 months participating with them in the Battles of Chicamauga, Lookout Moutain, Mission Ridge, rejoined Regiment in March 1864, and participated in all of the earlier engagements of the Atlanta Campaign; near Kennesaw Mountain on the night of June 18, 1864, he with Sergeant Devlin of the same Company were captured by enemy when relieving the picket line, and was a prisoner of war more than five months at Andersonville (GA)and Florence (SC); was paroled 30 Nov 1864, but was so disabled as to be unfitted for further service, and never rejoined the Regiment; mustered out at Springfield, IL May 24, 1865; is residing at Bandow, Cook Co., IL and is in poor health.
