In 1883 the family loaded their possessions into covered wagons and moved to Box Butte County Nebraska. There they established a farm with substantial buildings. The land was not very good but they prospered and raised crops, cattle and horses. In 1893 a prairie fire surrounded them but they saved the buildings by plowing around them, but many cattle and horses were lost. After this traumatic experience, they again loaded the covered wagons and, driving their remaining stock, moved east to Arborville, Nebraska. They had a nice house and garden there and some of the boys acquired nearby farms. (Contributed by Robert Steen from a family history record)
