He was named after his maternal Grandfather, James Thomas Watson.

He was born either in Sumpter County, GA as his older sister (born there in 1842) was, or else in Coffee County, AL where his parents and some other Adams families had settled in time to be on the 1850 Census. The family is still in Coffee County on the 1860 census. His father Alford's death is listed on the 1880 Census Mortality schedule for Covington County, AL as having been a resident of Rose Hill community for 12 years; therefore the Alford Adams family moved into Covington County around 1868, long after Tommy's birth.

PIONEER CITIZEN OF ANTIOCH DIES SUNDAY
Had Resided In Antioch Community For More Than Quarter Of Century

Mr. James Thomas Adams, aged 84, better known as "Uncle Tommy", died Sunday morning, June 22nd, at his home in Antioch where he had lived for more than a quarter of a century. Mr. Adams came to the county as a young man and has lived a life that will always be an example for good for those whom he cam in contact. He was true, honest, upright, and in all things honorable.

Mr. Adams was born January 6th, 1846, joined the Congregational Church at Antioch at the age of twenty-eight and has been a faithful member until he became physically unable to attend. He was married to Miss Susan C. Stewart, May 29th, 1872. To this union ten children were born, five boys, O.T. Adams of Baker, Fla.; J.A. Adams, Andalusia, Route 6; C.E. Adams, L.G. Adams, E.A. Adams, who all live on Andalusia, Route 2 and five daughters, Mrs. Lovie Dye, Cullman, Ala.; Mrs. Gladys Canant, Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Ester Thrower, Andalusia, Route 2; Mrs. Brudie(Birdie) May Lord, also of Andalusia, Route 2. All ten of his children were with him for several days before he died. Mr. Adams had forty-four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mr. Adams will be greatly missed by the Antioch Community as well as other sections as he lived not only for himself but for others, always mindful of the fact the greatest good comes from the prosperity of all, both spiritually and financially.

Funeral services were held in his church on Monday, June 23rd, with his pastor, Rev. M.L. Thrasher officiating. Interment was made in Antioch Cemetery.
