Bio

I've taken over a large number of memorials from a few inactive and deceased contributors. I'm trying to work through them to update them and add info but it will take a while. I welcome any edits and bio suggestions that you wish to send.

From another Graver:
I recently contacted Management about the explosion of unwanted records and other photos that do not belong on memorials. This was their response:

"The photos section of a memorial page is only to be used for photos of the deceased and photos of their grave."

"The photo area is ONLY to be used for photos of the person, their grave, their family, their house, etc. A scan of your grandmother's manuscript would be perfectly acceptable in the photo area because it is an image that is personally attached to the deceased."

Simply having someone in your family tree is not grounds for a management transfer request. With hundreds of thousands of contributors, we have many overlapping family trees and it would be impossible for all contributors to manage their entire tree. (Borrowed from another Findagrave member)

No bulk surname requests for transfers. I'm sorry, but someone who died 100+ years ago could be related to many people. I prefer you add the posting under the virtual cemetery feature at Find A Grave. There is also a "link" option to link relatives.

I take care of edits first. Then I get to the email suggestions as I have time. Please be patient.

Please, please, please don't post genealogy information in the flower area. We don't get notified if you do. I review my Find A Grave email notifications every day so please send them to me so I can add them to the bio section of the memorial.

If I didn't add the picture, I cannot remove the picture. You will have to message the person who added the picture. I also cannot delete the memorial if I didn't make the memorial.

As manager of memorials, I have discretion as to what is added to the bios.

I don't add or rearrange names to add in 1st spouses there is a place for it under spouses. Unless the wife hyphened her name is the only way I keep both. I add the information in the Bio section.

If you send an edit thru the tab on the memorial, please don't send another edit about the same suggestion thru 'other suggestions'. This action will not get your suggestion taken care of quicker.

A "Veteran" - whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve- is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to " The United States of America" for an amount of "up to, and including his/her life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact. That is why I place their rank on their memorial.

If requested to adjust inscription spacing, it will be declined and left as is. Sorry.

I do not accept subtraction DOB's

I do not add external links on memorials. It is against FAG rules. I will delete any links found on any memorials I manage.

Newspaper obits can and should be published on FAG but please give credit to the newspaper. And if transcribing, PLEASE, double check for typos. It should run as written.

PLEASE DO NOT add genealogical (such as family trees, census records, military records, etc.) and/or biographical information, as well as, advertisements to other websites to the "leave a flower or remembrance note section" of a memorial. This is not the place for this kind of information. This section of the memorial is designated for a person to leave a personal note and/or a flower in their memory. If by chance you do add this kind of information, I will have FAG remove it.

I would deeply appreciate it if you would ASK ME to add any genealogical and/or biographical information to the bio section of a person's memorial. I WILL NOT add links to other websites or federal census records to the memorials that I have posted, so please do not send them or add them into the picture section.. This is not the proper forum for that.

It is not a FAG requirement to accept memorial edits. If I decline, it is because I cannot verify the information. I DO NOT connect the memorials I manage to any unknown burials.

If you are reading this because you think that edits aren't being done in a timely manner, please be patient. Yes, I'm still an active member. We as managers have twenty (20) days to accept or not accept each suggestion.

For requests for additions or corrections to a memorial, please send request from the memorial so that I have links to it in the email.

When I receive an edit, I research ALL records available and will add whatever is necessary. I crop, focus, straighten all images before posting, to show respect for the deceased and their families. Please don't add an array of poor quality images out of respect for the deceased's family. I desire to make each memorial I manage as attractive and pleasing as possible.

I DO NOT connect to burials unknown. Please find the grave before asking me to connect anyone to an unknown grave memorial.

I don't estimate birth years. The relatives of the dearly departed not only could get the date of death wrong on the monument but the age at death. Too many people take anything they find on the Internet as gospel, and I will not contribute to that bad habit. (Borrowed from another FAG Contributor)

****If you volunteer on this website and decide you no longer want to maintain the records please transfer your records to someone who has an active account and willing to take over the records. I am one of many willing to take over records. This really will help reduce duplicates. It would also be a good idea to leave someone instructions on how to make these transfers should you go inactive without warning.***** Thank You (Borrowed from another FAG Contributor)

Please remember to be nice and polite; we are all volunteers who do this of our own free will.

Please don't put your assumptions on my memorials in the flower section. There is too much assuming in genealogy that is not helpful. Only accurate facts will help. If you have ideas, please send them in edits. Not to be mean but there is too much assuming of facts that are not helpful in finding ancestors.

FLOWERS: PLEASE don't use the flower section as a place to add a bio for the memorial...that isn't where it belongs. Just send me an EDIT. I'll add it to the bio.

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet
birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die.

A LIMB HAS FALLEN

A limb has fallen from the family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, Grieve not for me.

Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.

My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don't worry about falls I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes we're together again.

Native American Prayer Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all the world - hear me. I come before you, one of your children. I am small and weak. I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made, my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise, so that I may know the things you have taught my people, the lesson you have hidden in every leaf and rock. I seek strength not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able to fight my greatest enemy, *MYSELF*. Make me ever ready to come to you, with clean hands and straight eyes, so when life fades as a fading sunset, my spirit may come you without shame.

"THE CLOCK OF LIFE"

The clock of life is wound but once.
And no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop.
On what day - or what hour.

Now is the only time you have.
So live it with a will.
Don't wait until tomorrow.
The hands may then be still.

The Story Tellers

We are the chosen. In each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors, to research the family history, putting flesh on their bones and to make them live again; to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one, and we have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our Story. So, we do, and in finding them, our ancestors, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors that they have a wonderful family, that they would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt that there was love there for me? It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who I am. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference, and saying that I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish and how they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us that we might be born who we are, and that we remember them. So, we do with love, caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are them and they are us. Now, it is up to the one called in the next generation to answer the call and to take their place in the long line of family storytellers, to step up and put flesh on the bones of our ancestors. (Author Unknown) I have been such a scribe or one of the chosen, a story teller of my family. This is one reason why I do family research, to find not only our family's ancestors but to hopefully find out stories about them. It is always interesting, but it can be frustrating, too. There have been many times when I wanted to throw my hands in the air. But, then I find a little morsel of information that I use to find a bit more about the family or another name to follow to yet another county or state, and there I go again, digging into the books or trying to find that old country road on which a family cemetery is hopefully located. As I have said many times before, in blogs, newsletters and/or programs, finding one's ancestors is really finding one's self.
