Mrs. Josephine Schuler, the beloved wife of Joseph Schuler, died Tuesday night of heart trouble at her home on south Washington street, aged 74 years and 27 days. She was a most estimable lady, who was loved and respected by all who knew her.
Deceased was a native of Switzerland, and was born Sept 20, 1937. Her maiden name was Schuler. In the year 1863 she was united in marriage, in her native country, to Joseph Schuler.
Five children were born to them in the old country. Mr and Mrs. Schuler and family came to this country in 1868, settling in Louisville, where six more children were born to them. Of these eleven children, nine are still living as follows: Joseph Schuler of Lincoln, Neb; Dominick and Thomas Schuler of Louisville; Albert Schuler of Lexington, KY; Frank Schuler of Troy, Ohio; Charles Schuler of Petersburg, Texas; C.R. Schuler Huntingburg; Mrs. Louis Heitz Huntingburg; Mrs. Leander Kirwer Huntingburg.
In the fall of 1883 Mr & Mrs Schuler came to this county and located on the Englert farm in the Jackson Township, where they resided for three years, when they purchased the farm now owned by Gerhard Schipp, several miles east of Huntingburg. Thirteen years ago they retired from the farm and moved to Huntingburg, where they have since resided.
Mrs. Schuler was a loving, dutiful wife and a kind and affectionate woman. She was a devout meber of the Catholic church all her life, and was a good christian woman.
The funeral took place yesterday morning, after which the remains were interred in St. Mary's cemetery, Rev. Father Simon Barber performing the funeral rites.
