Marie Bartlett Sinclair, 85, of Lufkin, was born April 29, 1923, in Lufkin, Texas, the daughter of the late Ernest Level Bartlett, Sr. and Jodie Treadwell Bartlett. She passed away Monday, December 8, 2008, in a local hospital. Mrs. Sinclair graduated from Lufkin High School in 1938, attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College in 1943. She later received a Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin State College in 1958. Marie taught third grade at Kurth Elementary and W. C. Trout Elementary for 33 years, retiring from teaching in 1988. She served as president of the Lufkin Chapter of the Texas State Teachers Association. She was a lifelong member of Lufkins First United Methodist Church, and taught Sunday School for 25 years. Marie was an active volunteer with Lufkins First United Methodist Church, Pnecrest Retirement Community, Woodland Heights gift ship, the high school alumni association and retired teachers association. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, along with her membership in the sewing club and she was very active in the church. Marie married Roy Barton Sinclair on August 31, 1946. Roy preceded Marie in death in 1986. She is survived by her brother, Ernest Bartlett, Jr. and wife Bobbye of Lufkin; sister, Josie Spivey and husband Dr. Dan Spivey of Lufkin; sons, Ernest Edwin (Rusty) Sinclair and wife Sandy of Austin, Texas, Stephen Roy /Sinclair of Brownsville, Texas, and James Bartlett (Bart) Sinclair and wife Diane of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Grant Michael Sinclair of Victoria, Texas, Brad Alan Sinclair of Austin, Texas, Stuart Travis Sinclair of New York, NY, and Andrew Douglas Sinclair of Houston, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Sinclair, Hayden Carter Bartlett Sinclair and Gabriel Tuneberg. A special thanks go to neighbors Joe and Peggy Simmons for the care and concern for many years. Pallbearers will be Stuart Sinclair, Andrew Sinclair, Grant Sinclair, Brad Sinclair, Scott Reasor and Jason Reasor. Services for Marie will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008, in the Sanctuary of Lufkins First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Carol C. Turner and Reverend H. Michael Tyson, II officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
