He is half-brother to Margaret Elizabeth and William Marion Carmichael. Irwin's mother is buried in the same cemetery on the other side of headstone, his 2 brothers Albert, Edgar are buried there also. In 1910 census he was a hired hand in Gilbert, South Dakota, and he was a widow. His first marriage was to Margaret J Booker in 1905. His niece Irma Carmichael Prettyman use to visit her Uncle Irwin and Aunt Medy along with his great-niece Delorris Vittetow in the picture holding the little dog.
