She was born in Bradley Junction, daughter of the late Alex and Mary F. (Zeak) Strittmatter. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Ferry, Dec. 8, 1976; and an infant daughter, Maureen; sisters: Julia Jones, Ursula and Rose Hilda Vetock Strittmatter; infant sisters: Margaret Mary and Lucille; brothers: Philip and Demetrius; infant brother, Clemet; and special friend, Denver McConnell.
She is survived by children: Alice Davidson (James) of Shippensburg, Stephen (Christine) of Modesto, Calif., and David of Shippensburg; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, John "Bud" (Mary Farabaugh) of St. Augustine; sister-in-law, Eleanor (Biter) Strittmatter of Munster; brother-in-law, Basil Strittmatter of Ebensburg; and she was a special aunt to many, many nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Ebensburg Cambria High School and worked as an activities helper at Laurel Crest Manor, Ebensburg, and at the snack bar at Shippensburg University. Ellen was a devout Catholic and was always there for her family and friends in their time of need.
Mrs. Ferry was a former member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Carrolltown, and Banner Grange, Bradley Junction. She was a member of Fort Morris chapter of AARP.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Church, North Prince Street, Shippensburg, Pa., where visitation will be held from 10:30 until the memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2008. Committal at Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.
Local arrangements are by Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville.
