Marilyn P. Johnson GREENSBORO - Marilyn Pruden Johnson, 88, died July 8, 2008, in Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. She was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Severn, N.C., the only child of Rassie Jones Pruden and Gordon Archibald Pruden. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Jeptha Thomas Johnson; and her daughter, Lynne Johnson Lee. She is survived by her son, J. Thomas Johnson Jr. and his wife Cathy of Winston-Salem; her daughter, Marilue Johnson Sheffield and her husband Everett of Greensboro; and her son-in-law, Tom Lee and his wife Pat. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Deborah Lee Ross of Lakeland, Fla., Robert Gordon Lee of Greenville, N.C., Ann Cass Simon of Panossas, France, Elizabeth Sheffield Buda of Virginia Beach, Emily Blackburn Sheffield of Greensboro and Jeptha Thomas Johnson III of Winston-Salem; and six great-grandchildren, Ryan Ross of Lakeland, Fla., and Elizabeth, Elijah, Bethany, Heather Lynne and J.T. Lee, all of Greenville. She graduated from Women's College in Greensboro in 1940 and taught kindergarten in Murfreesboro, N.C., for many years. She was an active, longtime member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church until she moved to Greensboro in 1999 at which time she moved her membership to First Baptist Church of Greensboro. She was a gifted seamstress and needle worker. Her knitted sweaters and personalized Christmas stockings are the pride of family members and friends. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Severn Cemetery, Severn, N.C., and officiated by the Rev. Thomas Caulkins. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of Murfreesboro Baptist Church following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Murfreesboro Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Greensboro, Hospice and Care of Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summitt Ave., Greensboro, NC 24705 or the ALS Foundation.
