Heart Attack

The death of Robert Bryan Searcy, 48, occurred at his home here last Saturday morning, after an illness of two days of heart disease. He had been seized with a severe heart attack shortly after noon on Thursday, and collapsed a few minutes later in the Corner Drug Store. Taken to his home, he at times showed signs of rallying and even on the morning of his death was deemed somewhat improved.
Funeral services were conducted from the Leadinghaus-Mullins Chapel at 4 p. m. Sunday, and the chapel was filled to overflowing with friends who came to pay a last tribute. The floral offerings were profuse and from an unusually wide circle of admiring and grieving friends. Services were conducted by Rev. Eual Lawson, pastor of First Baptist Church.
Interment was in the local cemetery.
Robert Bryan Searcy, son of Joseph Theodore and Lulu Josephine Searcy, was born in Golconda, Illinois, on January 30 1899.
He spent his youth in Illinois, and was graduated from the Golconda high school. In 1913 he embraced the Baptist faith.
In 1920, the Searcy family moved to Alamogordo and became prominently identified with community life here. The deceased first assisted his father in the operation of the "Searcy Grocery," the successor to the R. V. King Grocery, on New York Ave. He later entered the employ of V. V. Frye, in the furniture business. For the past twenty years preceding his death, he was employed at the H. H. Stevenson Hardware and Furniture, where he made a multitude of congenial friends who placed their faith implicitly in him for his fair dealing and kindly advce in the purchase of the wares offered. His friends extend to all southern New Mexico and El Paso. He was familiarly known as "Sid."
His interest in athletics was renowned, and he was considered an authority on most sports, especially baseball. He promoted a team several years ago, in softball, known as "The Mountain Boys," whose loyalty to their manager was of the strictest nature.
Always taking a keen interest and often an active part in civic affairs, he served two terms as Town trustee, and for a short time as mayor pro tempore.
His cheery words are missed my many hundreds of close friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, in 1937; a sister, Kathleen, in 1914 and another sister, Bernice, in 1943. He is survived by his father; two sisters, Miss Edna, of Alamogordo, and Mrs. Mary Polk, of Hatch; one brother, Henry Searcy of Alamogordo; two nieces, Mary Polk of Hatch and Mona Searcy of Alamogordo; also one nephew, Travis Searcy of Alamogordo.
