Dies in New Mexico

Joseph Theodore Searcy, a former resident of Golconda, died in his home at Alamogordo, New Mexico, Friday, March 29 1957, only a few days after celebrating his ninety-second birthday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. E. Whitlow, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Alamogordo, of which Mr. Searcy was the oldest member. Burial was in Monte Vista cemetery.

Born in Perry County, Indiana, March 23, 1865, the youngest child of Lemuel and Barbara Searcy, Mr. Searcy spent much of his early life in Kentucky and Illinois.

He was married to Lula Josephine Butze in Golconda, September 30, 1891. In 1920 he and his family moved to Alamogordo, where for a number of years he was engaged in the grocery business.

Preceding him in death were his wife and three children, Kathleen, Bernice, and Robert. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Edna Searcy, 823 Virginia Ave., Alamogordo, N.M.; Mrs Mary Polk of Hatch, N.M., one son, Henry of Alamogordo; two granddaughters, one grandson, and five great grandchildren. A niece, Mrs. Al Quigley, the former Neola Smith of Paducah, Ky., and her husband were present from College Station, N. M. for the service.

Mr. Searcy had numerous relatives and friends in Golconda and vicinity who will be grieved to hear of his passing.

Searcy and Barbara Archibald Searcy, His siblings were: William Bennett Searcy; John James Searcy (1847-1938); Amanda Jane Searcy (1850-1872); Martha Frances Searcy (1853-1887); Lemuel M. Searcy (1856-1887); Mary Elizabeth Searcy; Almareign Melvina "Alice" Searcy.

To his children he was "Papa;" to his grandchildren he was "Pa."
