ROSS, Raymond N. Sr., 81, of Richmond, died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond N. Ross Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Yates Ross; one daughter, Linda R. Cobb (Harold); two sons, Douglas A. Ross Sr. (Delores) and Michael E. Ross Sr.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Ross; two sisters, Margaret R. Thompson (Joseph) and Dorothy R. Sydnor; sisters-in-law, Lois Y. Via and Shirley Y. Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. His career included working at the former Hanover School for Boys and the Thalhimers Department Store as a tailor. Mr. Ross is best remembered as the skilled, friendly proprietor of North Central Tailoring Shop on Chamberlayne Avenue. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the W.S. Watkins and Son Funeral Home, 2700 North Avenue. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 1, 2008, 11 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1200 N. 28th Street, Richmond, Va., with Dr. Sylvester T. Smith officiating, and Rev. Robert Spears delivering the eulogy. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the building fund of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.
