WEAVERVILLE – Lucius D. Maney, 85, at one-time postmaster at Beech, died unexpectedly Wednesday at 6:45 a.m. at his home.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Maggie Bradley Maney of Beech community; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Dillingham of Barnardsville and Mrs. Sue Dillingham and Mrs. Pansey Shepherd of Stocksville; three sons, Robert T. of Swannanoa, Joe E. of Fletcher and Burton V. Maney of Beech; five brothers, Talmadge and Charlie of Barnardsville, Emerson of Beech and John and Charlie Maney of Asheville; 37 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

West Funeral Home is in charge.

Maney has served as postmaster at Beech for 30 years and was formerly engaged in the mercantile business there.
