she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Arvetta Smith Calloway. She was married to Jugurtha Barnette. Mrs. Barnette moved back to Cairo in 1969 and had lived in New York City, N.Y. She was a teacher, member of the Mission Board, Senior Choir and involved in the opening of Mt. Calvary Day Care Center. She attended Washington High School and Albany State College and was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Cairo.
