Before turning professional he attended Saint Thomas More High School where he lettered in three sports. After high school, he attended and played football at the University of Richmond for the Richmond Spiders in Richmond Virginia. In 1960 he was drafted in the American Football League Draft in round 2 by the Oakland Raiders, as such he was a member of their inaugural season, where he only played for one season. He then moved on to the Wheeling Ironmen, Philadelphia Bulldogs, and Pottstown Firebirds. After leaving football he began a career in the beverage business and eventually became the owner of his bar and restaurant in 1979.
