Margaret "Peg" (McCarthy) Xenos, 78, of Worcester, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester. Her husband of 46 years, Donald G. Xenos, died in 2004.

She leaves two sons, Richard S. Xenos of Worcester, and Donald G. Xenos II and his wife Norah M. Xenos; two grandsons, Andrew and Gregory Xenos, all of Westborough; a sister, Marion Mastronardi of Revere; two brothers, Edward and Robert McCarthy, both of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews. Her sister Ruth Chanis, and two brothers, Richard and Thomas McCarthy, predeceased her.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of Michael and Mary (Morrissey) McCarthy and lived in Worcester all her life.

She was educated in the Worcester Public Schools. Later in her life, she earned a degree from Quinsigamond Community College.

Mrs. Xenos had a long career as a secretary in federal government offices in Worcester. She worked initially for the Social Security Administration and later for the Internal Revenue Service, before retiring.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish. She enjoyed reading mystery novels. She was an accomplished painter in oils and a longtime member of the Worcester Art Museum. She liked to visit the Maine coastline. She was an active community volunteer for many years especially with social service programs dedicated to helping young women.
