Frankfort – Eldred Williams Melton, age 94, passed away at home on Sunday, June 18, 2023. Services will be held at Pilot Baptist Church in Eubank, Kentucky on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Ira Linville officiating. Burial will follow at Pilot Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, and from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. service time on Tuesday at Pilot Baptist Church.
Mrs. Melton was born in Waynesburg, Kentucky, on July 31, 1928, to the late David S. Williams and Celestia Smith Williams. She was an educator and retired as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Heritage Commission. She enjoyed studying genealogy which led her to publish a book, Marriages of Casey County.
She is survived by her children, James P. Melton III (Pamela) and Sarah Melton Hamilton (Gerald); brother, Olin "Bud" Williams (Earnestine); sister-in-law, Judy Williams; grandchildren, James P. Melton IV (Lee Ann), Matthew Melton (Stephanie), Haley Hamilton, and Holly Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Austin Kays (Leann), Breann Melton, and Emily Melton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Melton, Jr; children, Stephen David Melton and Elizabeth Melton; brothers, George Williams and Leland Williams; and granddaughter, Alaina Hamilton.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Melton, Matthew Melton, David Williams, Jonathan Williams, Kevin McCreary, and Austin Kays.
Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory.
