Gwenda K. Bodford, age 88, of the Cane River Community, passed over peacefully on Wednesday, April 12th, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Madge Randolph King.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Bruce Bodford, who passed away in 2014, and a brother, Floyd King.

Gwen was a medical secretary for many years until her retirement in 1998 from Yancey County Health Department. She loved doing crafts and genealogy, and spent countless hours contributing to Yancey County's genealogy. She also enjoyed bird watching, collecting seashells and feeding stray animals.

Surviving are her three daughters: Debbie, Denise and Diana; son, David; her grandchildren: Amy (Alfred), Adam, Alaina (James) and Jonathan (Becky); and her great-grandchildren: Tabitha, Dexter, Donnie, Alex and Sarabeth.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Randall Robinson officiating.

Graveside Services and interment will follow in the Pete Young Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made either to the Yancey County Humane Society at P. O. Box 1016, Burnsville, NC 28714 or to the Yancey County History Association at 3 Academy Street, Burnsville, NC 28714.
