Betty Reece Thomas, 87, of Asheville, earned her angel wings Thursday, December 29, 2022, in Hospice care.
She was born July 16, 1935, in Marshall, N.C. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Burnette Reece.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hugh Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her sibling Sgt. Walter James Reece, daughter Anita Thomas Stanley.
She retired from the American Enka plant and spent her remaining life caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was an active member of Sunrise Baptist Church in Asheville. Surviving is her daughter, Vicky Byerly of Asheville (Bill); son Billy Thomas of Asheville; daughter, Pam Welborn (Edmond) of Thomasville; daughter Paula Welborn (Ernie) of Greensboro; daughter Rebecca Brown (Chris) of Marion; JJ Thomas of Asheville. Grandchildren, Miranda Byerly (Tracey), Emilee Laughter (Nathan), Richard Thomas (Amber), Hunter Welborn (Ashley), Dylan Welborn (Sierra), Tiffany Potter (Paul), Candice Berens (Tim), grandchildren Sawyer Brown, McKinley O'Brien, Jackson O'Brien. Great grandchildren, Brody Thomas, Parker Jones, Isaiah Potter, Cora Laughter, Nash Berens. She is also survived by her sisters, Faye Flynn; Inez Dockery (Cuman), brother, Harold Reece, and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Runnion Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Johnny Raines, on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 2:00pm
