He was born in Coshocton, Ohio, the third child of Caleb and Phebe (Purdy) Husted. His entire family relocated to McDonough County, Illinois sometime after 1848. He married his wife, Mrs. Jane Driskell in McDonough County, Illinois on December 18, 1856. There are no documented children for this couple. She married again after his death, to her third husband, John Allison, in 1875.

His sister, Sarah (Husted) Buzzard, and his older brother, Talmon Husted, are also interred in this cemetery. His parents and his wife may also be buried here. His stone lies next to his brother Talmon's stone and not far from his sister, Sarah Buzzard. The top part of his stone (with the name) is broken off and likely covered by foliage or mud as of March 2008.
