Professional Footballer. Atsu was born in the coastal city Ada Foah, just east of Accra. As a child, he moved around the country to multiple soccer academies before moving to Europe. He then debuted for Ghana's senior national team at age 20. At 22, he represented his nation at the 2014 World Cup. Just six months later, he starred at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and was named player of the tournament. Atsu originally represented Ghana in 65 games, helping his team reach the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final where they lost to Ivory Coast. He was last selected to play for Ghana in 2019. Atsu joined Hatayspor last September after playing with English Premiere League clubs Everton, Chelsea and Newcastle United. After leaving St. James' Park in 2021, he joined Saudi Pro League side Al Raed FC before moving to Turkey with Hatayspor in summer 2022. On Feb. 5, 2023, he scored a game-winning goal against Kasimpaşa. He tragically lost his life to the results of the Earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Feb 6, 2023.
