Vidalina was born on April 15, 1929, in Manati Puerto Rico to the late Oscar Freytes and Lydia Ojeda. She grew up in a small town called Monte Bello and was one of nine children: William (decd.), Juanin, Luis, Aurea Lydia (decd.), Oscarin (decd.), Catin, Olga, and Freddie.
Monte Bello was where she met her first and only love, the late Emilio "Millo" Brito. They were married on July 12, 1952. They rented homes both in Monte Bello and Manati and started their life together. Their first born, Nidia Damaris "Mari" was born on June 11, 1960. While Emilio was away in the U.S. Army.
She was able to leave PR to travel. When Emilio was stationed in El Paso, Texas Vidalina accompanied him and had two more daughters, Marta, born June 21, 1962 and Elva, born September 3, 1964. They then moved again to Heidelberg Germany where their youngest Brenda was born on June 12, 1968. From there they moved to Virginia then Alabama but eventually settled in Paterson NJ in 1972 when Emilio retired.
