Vernon was a native of Davidson County, Tennessee where he attended school and graduated from Antioch High School in 1940. Afterwards he served five years in the Marine Corp in the First Marine Regiment. He was in the battles of Guadalcanal and Cape Gloucester at the beginning of WW 2. After graduating from Uni of Tennessee (Knoxville) he began a 36 year career with USDA Soil Conservation Service. He served in Jackson & Hawkins Counties and retired in 1984 while serving in Wilson County. He was active in the Methodist Church and Boy Scouts. He had served as President of both the Rogersville and Lebanon Rotary Clubs. Mr. Berry was a member of the Lebanon Road United Methodist Church where a Memorial Service was held on Friday , November 3, 2006.
