Gertrude Carter Duke, age 79, of Cedartown, passed away Sunday, December 12, 1999 in a Rockmart nursing home. Mrs. Duke was born Feb. 17, 1920 in Polk County. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Green Duke; parents, Charlie and Bertha Dobbs Carter; and two sons, Donald Charles and Larry Dwight Duke. Surviving are son, Ronald Glenn Duke of Cedartown; two daughters, Bobbie Jean Yarbrough and Sandra Arlene Greene, both of Cedartown; three brothers, Charles Carter of Cedartown, Dewey Carter of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Clyde Carter, Sr. of Cedartown; a sister; Ivadan Gallimore of Cedartown; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 14, from Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Merritt and Rev. Carlton Duke officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Casey Greene, Matt Duke, Jason Yarbrough, Larry Benefield, Frankie Waits and Marty Woods. Freeman Harris Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
