The Elder Wilbert ADAMS, JR., 63, resident of South Ozone, N.Y., formerly of Engelhard, N.C., died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004 at Jamaica Hospital. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday (Oct. 30) 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. H.D. Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery, Engelhard, N.C. Elder Adams was born in Hyde County March 21, 1941 to Gladys M. Adams Midgette and the late Linwood Adams. He attended the Hyde County schools. He was a graduate of the former Davis High School Class of 1959. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He served as pastor of New Paradise Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was married to Evangelist Perlene Gibbs Adams, who survives. Also surviving: three daughters, Charlene A. Randall (Lorenzo) of Stone Mountain, Ga., Cynthia Adams of South Ozone, N.Y., Pamela Adams of Virginia; seven sisters, Dorothy Moody of New York, Martha Adams (Clyde) of Fayetteville, N.C., Sushia Salley (George) of Engelhard, Helena Lyons of Brooklyn, N.Y., Linda Bonds (James) of Windsor, N.C., Carie Headley of New York, Sarah B. Jennette, Engelhard; one brother, Elton Midgette of New York; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Adams residence, Pleasant Grove Church Road, Engelhard, N.C. Arrangements by Fair Haven Funeral Chapel, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Whitfield & Whitley Funeral Home.
