Wife of Samuel Spencer Mann
Mrs. Samuel Spencer MANN, 88, died in Washington, N.C. on Monday at 9:20 a.m. after a long illness. She is survived by seven daughters: Mrs. L.H. Swindell of Washington, Mrs. Leslie Jones of Norfolk, Mrs. Clifton Credle of Belhaven, Mrs. John Sweeney of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Charles Hartman of Portsmouth, Mrs. William Amis of Hallsville, Texas, and Mrs. David McCarroll of Mamaroneck, New York; a son, J. Spencer Mann of New York City; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her husband was for the years of his lifetime, a prominent attorney of Hyde County, residing at Swan Quarter. Mrs. Mann was a native of Hyde County and after the death of her husband in 1940, she resided with her daughter, Mrs. Credle, in Belhaven. She was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church and daughter of the late Joseph M. and Mrs. Eliza Credle Watson.
