Obituary:
John Joseph Adams, Esq., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on May 4, 2011 at the age of 53. John earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Delaware in 1979 and his Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law in 1982. He was admitted to practice before the Bar of the State of New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He was the managing partner of Adams & Adams in Swedesboro New Jersey.
John served as the Prosecutor for the Borough of Swedesboro for 14 years and the Prosecutor for the Township of Franklin for five years. He most recently served as the Judge of Greenwich Township and had the honor of serving many of the communities in Gloucester County from time to time as Judge.
He taught the real estate course to new graduates for the NJ institute of continuing legal education for six years and served as an Arbitrator for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and as a mediation panelist for the Gloucester County Superior Court. He served as County Counsel for the Gloucester County Republican Party, the Chairman of the Swedesboro Republican club and was a member of Swedesboro Kiwanis. He donated his legal services to many of the churches and charitable organizations in the area as well as Gloucester County seniors. He was recognized as an expert in adoption law and championed birth parents' rights in Pennsylvania and adoptee rights in South Carolina and made new law in both states. He was often invited to speak on adoption issues and appeared on many television programs nationwide including the Phil Donahue Show, AM Philadelphia and AM San Francisco.
To John, life was an adventure, and no matter what the event, good or bad, it was a story. He was a wonderful storyteller and wrote novels, poetry and puns. He was known to be the one who could make a roomful of people smile and make every movie (no matter how esoteric) absolutely fascinating. He was a history buff, an expert in the Civil War and a wonderful and inspiring teacher. He participated in Civil War reenactments from New Jersey to Virginia and at the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
John is survived by his wife, Joan Sorbello Adams, Esq., and his sons Richard and David, his mother, Arlene Adams and predeceased by his father Joseph Adams. He is missed by siblings, Margaret (Larry) Kupchella; Lt. Col. Elizabeth (Bernard) Togia; Louise (Brian) Nail and Douglas Danner. He is also survived by his birth Mother, Shirley Danner. Cherished son-in-law of Rosario and Mary Sorbello and beloved brother-in-law to Nedda (Len) Grasso; Rosemary (Joseph) Botto; Susan (Randy) Lewbart; Julie Barile and Dr. Dean DeBroekert and Debra (Pete) Conners and numerous nieces and nephews to whom he was a devoted uncle.
