Bobbie H. Boney

LANCASTER -- Mrs. Boney, 77, of 13180 Dorman Rd. Apt D110 passed peacefully onto her Heavenly home on Thursday, January 27, 2005, at her residence. Mrs. Boney was born on May 10, 1927 in Heath Springs, SC, a daughter of the late John E. Hunter and Floride Cauthen Hunter. She is preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Clarence Boney Jr:; her stepmother, Julia H. Hunter; her sisters, Sara Troublefield and Leila Mae Bost; and her brother Clarence Hunter.

She attended Heath Springs High School and was a graduate of Winthrop College where she received her B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education with a minor in Science. Mrs. Boney, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, businesswoman, and dedicated community volunteer and church member will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She enjoyed many successes in her 20-year teaching career including development of a Nature Trail for student's use, which won the North Carolina Beautification Award and led to national recognition with the Keep America Beautiful Program. She was Resident Manager of Paradise Inn Motel on Carolina Beach for 11 years. There she served the beach community as Treasurer and later Vice-president of the American Business Women's Association. She also served as Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star-Federal Point Chapter #361. In 1991, after completion of insurance training courses, she became an Independent Insurance Agent with AFLC. Later, her love of life-long learning was equaled by her desire to serve and promote community enrichment. She was a Garden Hot Line Volunteer with the NC Cooperative Extension Service and a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Advisor. She assisted in election campaigns and polling duties and served as Enumerator and Assistant Field Officer with the US Department of Commerce-Bureau of the Census. She was an active member of Pine Valley Baptist Church and the Joy Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, square dancing, bridge and participation in the Sierra Club.

Mrs. Boney was a devoted mother of four sons, Terry Boney and wife Mary Ann of Springfield, TN, Benjamin Boney III of Wilmington, David Boney and Michael Boney of Charlotte: and one daughter Sandra Boney Mixon also of Charlotte; three grandchildren Paul Boney and Ms.Beth Grodis of Nashville, TN and Ben Wolfe of Raleigh, NC; and one great- granddaughter, Betsy Grodis; two sisters, Mrs. Marguerite Neal of Kershaw, SC and Mrs. Betty Brashington of Lancaster, SC; one brother Wade Hunter of Kershaw, SC; a stepsister Mrs. Mary E.Beckham of Due West, SC; and two step-brothers Walt Hazel Hendrix of Waynesboro, VA. and Dr. Grady Hendrix of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one sister-in-law Dorothy Boney Garriss and their respective families.

Memorial Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bobbie H. Boney will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Forest Hill Church in Charlotte, NC and also at 2:00 pm on Friday February 4, 2005 at Pine Valley Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC or Pine Valley Baptist Church, 3940 Shipyard Blvd. Wilmington, NC 28403.

The Boney Family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who so richly blessed Mother's life, to Dr. Brittian Callahan and the Directors and Staff of "The Laurels" for their compassion and dedication to patient care excellence, and to the Director and staff of the Dorchester for making mother's transition to Charlotte such a positive experience.
