Born January 4, 1941, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Leonard Joseph and Anna (Hanadel) Pepe.
Francis served over twenty years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Major. He also saw combat in Vietnam. He worked as a business manager for MSC Management Services in Mt. Lake Park, MD. Francis was a member of the Garrett County Marine Corps League, Detachment 1234. He was an avid golfer and he and his wife, Elaine, enjoyed traveling the country in their RV. Francis was a great architect and carpenter and enjoyed helping his family and friends design and build whatever they desired. He was totally devoted to his family and enjoyed his family pets, including his latest dog Pipa.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Agnes Elaine Pepe, of Lecanto, FL and Mountain Lake Park, MD; two daughters, Shirley Diane Bailey and husband Jim, Oakland, MD; Anna Jean Kostyla and husband Stanley of Fairfax Station, VA; and one son, Leonard Francis Pepe and wife, Amy, of Chesapeake, VA. Francis is also survived by seven grandchildren: Bobby Sapp, Matthew Burnett, Michelle Burnett Judy, Christopher Burnett, William Pepe, Julia Pepe and Abigail Pepe, two step grandchildren, Cindy Bryden and husband, Todd and Jason Bailey and wife Cary and eight great-grandchildren: Kaylin Burnett, Cason Burnett, Mia Judy, Makayla Judy, Arabella Rose Sapp, Jarod Bryden, Nicholas Bryden and James Bailey.
At Francis’s request, he will be cremated. Family services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
