Prussia Monarch. The son of King Friedrich Wilhelm III and his wife Luise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, he was taught philosophy by Friedrich Delbrueck and Ancillon. He got his military knowledge from Scharnhorst and Knesebeck. Schinkel and Rauch supported his talents for art. In 1823 he married Elisabeth of Bavaria. He founded the peace class for Art and Science of the Medal Pour le Merite. During his reign the Cathedral of Colonge was finished. In 1849, after the revolution was concluded, he signed a constitution that was effective until 1918-1919. After several strokes that affected his ability to speak, he was unable to continue to reign the kingdom. His brother acted as his regent until his death.
