Aloysius Tuchscherer, 79, Onaka, SD, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Holy Infant Hospital, Hoven, SD.

Aloysius Tuchscherer, son of Eva (Fiest) and Wendlin Tuchscherer, was born February 14, 1928 near Onaka He was raised on a farm NW of Onaka and attended SE Madison TWSHP Rural School. He attended Onaka High School, graduating with the Class of 1948. Following his formal education, he worked on the farm.

He married Bertha Waldman at Onaka on November 8, 1950.

Al served his country in the United States Army, being inducted January 21, 1954. He served all over the world, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on February 28, 1974.

He settled in Augusta, GA where he worked at carpentry, painting and other odd jobs. In March 1995, he returned to Onaka where he lived the remainder of his life.

He belonged to St. John's Catholic Church and was on the Church Council. He also belonged to the Deis-Leboldus American Legion Post No. 270, Onaka, and served on the Onaka town board. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with things.

Al is survived by Bertha, his wife of 56 years, 2 sons-Calvin (Randi) Tuchscherer of Aloha, OR and Arron (Terri) Tuchscherer of Atlanta, GA; 1 daughter Melissa Tuchscherer of Kansas City, MO; and 4 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father on August 13, 1954, his mother on December 27, 1950, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

The Funeral Mass is Friday, September 7, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Onaka, with Father Lance Oser, Celebrant. Burial follows at the Church Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Leboldus-Deis American Legion Post No. 270, Onaka.

Casketbearers will be Tifanie Tuchscherer and Brandy Tuchscherer of Portland, Or., Jennifer Eoff and Ben Eoff of Dallas, Tx., and Brandon Tuchscherer and Sarah Tuchscherer of Atlanta, Ga.

Usher will be Kurt Kaiser and lector will be Carol Waldman. Mass server will be Keith Waldman and offertory will be Shannon and Kay Waldman.
