"Mr. Alexander Chesnut, husband of Mrs. Mary Ann Chesnut (lately deceased) of Prosperity church, DeKalb Co., Ga., died on the 18th of April, 1881 in the 73d year of his age.... was born in Chester Co., S. C., August 27, 1809, of pious parents, Mr. David and Jane Chesnut. His father David moved to the State of Georgia in 1826 or 1827 and settled close to where Hopewell Church now stands in Newton County, when the subject of this notice was quite young. He was united in marriage with Mary Ann McDill, March 22nd, 1836. In 1851, Mr. Chesnut with his family, of three sons and two daughters moved from Hopewell, Newton County to Prosperity Church in DeKalb County."
