"Newark - The Seneca Falls Reveille of last week has the following reference to the death of ex-Judge Gilbert Wilcoxen, a former resident of that town. Judge Wilcoxen was also a brother of Miss Rhoda Wilcoxen of this place, who attended on Wednesday of last week the Interment services at Seneca Falls: Ex-Judge Gilbert Wilcoxen, who established this paper [The Seneca Falls Reveille] in 1854, and conducted it for a period of four years, died at the home of his son, William M. Wilcoxen, in DesMoines, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon. May 3d, aged 84 years. Judge Wilcoxen was at Peterboro, Madison county, September, 1827. In 1849 he came to Seneca Falls with his father's family and continued to reside here until eight years ago when he went to DesMoines to live with his son. He was a graduate of the Seneca Falls academy and of Hamilton College, receiving his diploma from the latter institution in 1852. In 1859 he was married to Miss Jennie P. Merrill of Tyre, whose death occurred a number of years ago. He leaves surviving him two sons; William M. Wilcoxen of DesMoines and Fred G. Wilcoxen of Oswego; also two brothers and three sisters; A. S. Wilcoxen of DesMoines, Baxter Wilcoxen of Washington, Mrs. Lorraine Sutton of Oregon and the Misses Mary and Rhoda Wilcoxen of Newark. The body reached here for burial in charge of his son, William, Tuesday night. Interment in Restvale cemetery." (May 15, 1913, The Newark Courier, NY)
