GEMMA VALERIO Obituary
Gemma M. Valerio a lifelong Piermont resident, died on January 4, 2010. She was 94 years old. Gemma was born in Piermont, NY on November 17, 1915 to Gedsue and Catherine DeFrancesca. She was employed for thirty years as a switchboard operator for the NY Telephone Co. She started working in the Sparkill office and after its closing transferred to 99 Main Street in Nyack. She also worked out of the Spring Valley office and eventually retired from the Suffern office. After her retirement from NY Telephone she worked for St. Agatha's in Nanuet as a switchboard operator for 37 ½ years retiring at the age of 88. Gemma was a member of St. John's RC Church in Piermont. She was predeceased by her husband Francis John in 1995. Gemma is survived by her daughter Regina McClure of Piermont, a brother Americo (Bo) DeFrancesca of South Nyack, a sister Theresa (Pat) Veen of Piermont three loving grandchildren and seven loving great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at St. John the Baptist RC Church in Piermont. Visiting will be held on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 PM and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New York Foundling, St. Agatha Program, 590 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10011.
